3 Stages Of Leaky Gut

There are probably many of you reading are wondering what is Leaky Gut? If you fall into this category then this free report is for you! Without getting into the causes of it let’s take a look at exactly how it progresses.

I don’t want to bore with you an anatomy lecture so I’m going to keep this as simple as possible.

1. Initial Onset of Leaky Gut: Do You Know What Started Yours?

How does it start? Well, there is no one single cause. It is typically the accumulation of multiple stressors on the digestive tract that cause inflammation and result in the initial onset of Leaky Gut.

These chronic stressors create continuous inflammation which literally burns the intestinal lining and causes damage to the digestive tract. Over time this damage breaks down the intestinal lining and Leaky Gut develops.

There are two extremely important parts of the intestinal lining which are the first to be damaged due to intestinal inflammation, the mucosal barrier and the microvilli.

When damage occurs to these two outermost layers of the intestinal lining, the result can be detrimental. When the mucosal barrier becomes damaged, the first thing that happens is you lose 70-80% of your immune system which leaves your body vulnerable to infection.

This also forces the remaining parts of your immune system to work overtime to fight off all of the new invading unwanted particles and pathogens. This results in an overactive immune system.

When this continues and the microvilli become damaged, you lose your ability to properly digest your food and absorb the nutrients that your body needs to function properly.

Now you have lost the ability to properly digest your food, the undigested food particles become an all you can eat buffet for harmful parasites, bacteria, and yeast/fungi.

Normally these pathogens do not have enough food to thrive but now there is the perfect environment to support these pathogens existing in your gut. These harmful pathogens then push out the beneficial bacteria and create an imbalance in the gut flora also known as dysbiosis.

2. Advanced Onset of Leaky Gut: Do You Know What Is Driving It?

After the intestinal inflammation wears down the mucosal barrier and damages the microvilli, it begins to take its toll on the intestinal lining cell structures. These intestinal lining cells are designed to fit together tightly forming tight gap junctions, so that they only allow the small and fully digested nutrients through and into the bloodstream.

As damage occurs, these cell structures called desmazomes begin to break down forming looser and larger gap junctions. These larger gap junctions now allow larger harmful and unwanted particles such as undigested food, toxins, parasites, bacteria, and yeast/fungi straight through into the blood stream. This is how Leaky Gut gets its name.

As you can imagine, these harmful particles and pathogens that easily reach the blood stream are now free to travel anywhere in the body wreaking havoc everywhere they go.

When these undigested food particles and pathogens reach the blood stream, they become foreign invaders to the body which are commonly referred to as antigens. This prompts the body to produce antibodies which play the role to seek out and locate these antigens anywhere in the body.

Once located, the antibodies attach themselves to the antigens. During this process, chemicals are released to signal the immune system to send immune cells to the area to destroy the foreign invader.

One of the chemicals that are released during this process is called histamine which triggers an inflammatory response. The inflammation results in the stimulation of pain and further damage in the affected area of the body.

Keep in mind that these particles are constantly leaking into your blood stream for which your body must constantly produce antibodies. These antibodies are constantly triggering the immune system which becomes overactive.

As the typical Advanced Onset symptoms of progress, they are rarely associated with the underlying Leaky Gut. Many times medications are used in order to alleviate these symptoms which only further damage the intestinal lining and perpetuates the problem while more serious damage is done.

As the pain, fatigue, and food intolerance symptoms are ignored over time, the body is still left to deal with the ensuing assault. Over time there is a buildup of antibodies and antigens (foreign invaders) in the body. Once the buildup of these immune complexes reaches a certain level, your body down regulate the production of immune cells.

Because of this down regulation of the immune system, your typical onset symptoms due to excessive inflammation begin to disappear even though Leaky Gut is still present. These symptoms are replaced by chronic fatigue and an uncomfortable and uneasy feeling that is typically felt with the onset of disease.

The unbalanced gut flora worsens as the harmful parasites, bacteria, and yeast/fungi thrive in your digestive tract. Now they can also enter the blood stream and move freely through the body with the ability to infect any body tissue or organ. This results in chronic internal and external infections that continue to drive Leaky Gut.

As the signs and symptoms are further ignored, the damage still continues. This eventually overwhelms the immune system which eventually begins to attack your own tissue and organs resulting in autoimmune disease.

The key point to understand is that because these foreign invaders can move freely to anywhere inside the body, autoimmune disease can develop anywhere in the body including the organs, muscles, and joints.

2 Approaches To Healing Leaky Gut You Shouldn’t Rely On

I can’t begin to tell you how many different tips tricks and methods I’ve seen for healing a leaky gut. Some are steps in the right direction while others leave me scratching my head wondering where someone could have come up with this stuff.

The good news is that not many of them have a real chance at doing much harm but if you’re going to invest the time and effort to do something, you might as well do it right.

Here I’d like to share with you some of the pluses and minuses of a few approaches and let you in on the one that I use to get such great results.

1. The Supplement Approach

If you can’t tell already, the supplement approach to healing leaky gut is one where you stuff your body full of different supplements hoping you find the magic formula that gets the job done.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you’ll be looking for a really long time and accumulate some major debt if you think this approach is ever going to work.

Think about it for a second. You didn’t develop leaky gut syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease or any other inflammatory based gut condition because you are deficient in supplements. So if you are not deficient then why would it make sense that supplements are going to solve your problem?

Let’s set one thing straight. Supplements are meant to add to, not make up for a lack. So only after you do your part with the nutrition and lifestyle aspects of health should you even consider using supplements.

Don’t get me wrong. Supplements can be helpful when healing leaky gut but only when you use the right ones at the right times. Supplements will do little if you don’t create the foundation that will let them do their job. It would be like trying to put out a forest fire with a garden hose; you will always be fighting a losing battle.

But if you create the proper foundation for your garden, those supplements can help water it so it can grow to its true potential.

2. The Restriction Diet Approach

Another very popular approach to healing leaky gut is through a restrictive diet. It’s almost a given that with any gut dysfunction that you’re going to develop food allergies. And in most cases there will already be an underlying gluten intolerance or more sever celiac disease present.

While I myself use a restrictive diet with my clients which is similar to the Gotschall Diet with some improvements, you have to understand that restriction is only half of the battle when healing leaky gut.

You can cut out anything and everything that you want and your symptoms may improve but the truth is that if you don’t add what your body needs to your diet to heal then you’ll be stuck on your restrictive diet for a lifetime. How much fun does that sound?

My Holistic Approach

If you understand the true nature of health then you should easily understand why a holistic approach to healing leaky gut is always the best. Just about everyone is guilty of making the mistake of thinking that there is one thing alone that is causing their health problems.

But that’s just not how the body works. The body is a system of systems and if you throw one system off, you throw them all off. So in order to regain the balance you have to focus on and bring all systems back to balance.

So if you think you’re going to heal leaky gut with one single approach focusing on supplements or diet alone or any of the hundreds of tricks then you’re going to be in for a surprise. There’s a good chance that you’re going to need to work on much more than your gut if you want a fighting chance at healing leaky gut.

My Leaky Gut Healing Recommendations: Start With Basics

One thing is for sure, everyone wants to be healthy. But there are millions of people suffering from Leaky Gut and the vast majority doesn’t even know it. So what can you do for your gut health?

First of all, let’s get one thing straight. Poor health, diseases, conditions, and symptoms (you name it) occur because of one fundamental rule is broken. The body has fallen out of balance.

So it only makes sense that if you want to resolve your symptoms whatever they may be, you must bring your body back into balance. Bring your body back into balance and disease, conditions, symptoms, and even Leaky Gut simply cannot exist. It’s as simple as that!

If you are on the hunt for the Holy Grail, you won’t find it in the form of a pill. When dealing with Leaky Gut, you have to start by rebuilding the foundation. This begins with the basics.

1. Diet and Nutrition

There are a few things in life that we do more than “eat”. Considering that we get everything we need to survive from our food, it is easy to see that diet and nutrition have a significant influence on our health.

With Leaky Gut, your digestive system is already impaired making it even harder to get the required nutrients from the foods you eat. Because of this, you need to focus even harder on getting the most nutritious and nutrient dense foods into your body.

This will help you get the most nutrients possible and provide you with the building blocks for healing.

This is why a diet focused around whole foods like organic meats, fruits, and vegetables is best. They are more nutrient dense than the conventional and processed food counterparts. So you may be a paying a little more but you’re getting more bang for your buck!

2. Lifestyle

Lifestyle is more of a blanket term to describe the choices we make in life. We constantly have to make choices and deal with the consequences. There is no escaping it. But the real issue here is the stress that you endure from making these choices.

There are a lot of stress factors that contribute to Leaky Gut. Without getting too scientific, stress affects every aspect of the body from your hormones to your brain function. Stress will also bring your ability to heal and repair your body to a screeching halt.

So if you want to heal your Leaky Gut, it is best to minimize stress as much as possible. Make a list of your main sources of stress and work on the sources that you have most control over. You may not be able to change your deadlines at work, but you can certainly stop arguing with your spouse about things that typically have no true relevance in the first place.
